WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The competition was hot Tuesday night. It was the final night of Fire on the Dock at Wrightsville Beach.
Only two chefs remained, and Andy Hopper from Chefs 105 in Morehead City came out the winner. He has cooked across the country and internationally. He took on Gerry Fong from Persimmons in New Bern, who said his Chinese skills and North Carolina ingredients give him an edge.
Organizer Jimmy Crippen has styled the competition in the manner of “Iron Chef.”
“Tonight is for all the marbles,” Crippen said. “They are competing for a $2,000 check, the coveted red chef’s jacket, a trophy and a brand new pair of Dansko chef’s shoes. This is the big one. They will go on to compete in the grand championship down the road representing the eastern North Carolina region.”
It started with 16 restaurants and has run for 15 weeks. Fire on the Dock is a diner-judged cooking competition, the chefs compete and the crowd eats and a new champion is crowned.
